Intelligent Vibrations consists of a large glass panel activated
by small shocks created by tapping one’s fingernail
on the screen. Simultaneously, the glass panel can be used
as a giant microphone which gives uniform audio recording
or transmission capabilities over several square metres of
active area.
The panel utilises patented technology based on the detection
of acoustic waves. One key characteristic of the technology is its unique ability to detect the smallest ultrasonic energy
created by a light impact. Therefore, as is the case with other touch panel devices, nothing more than your fingernail
is needed to activate the panel. The advantage, however, of this window over standard touch screens is its very large
surface area: several square metres, or the equivalent of an entire shop window!
The area of the glass is programmable, making it possible
to select which part of the panel is active. This gives you
the opportunity to describe every product on display behind
a shop window, or in a museum with a precision of 3 square
centimetres.
The panels are made of standard or tempered glass using comparatively
low cost technology.
They are used in association with graphic displays such as
LCD, CRT and plasma displays or combined with the spectacular
on-glass projection system.
The possibilities for Intelligent Vibrations tap-glass technology
is virtually unlimited. Outdoors, they are perfectly adapted
to shop windows such as those of real estate agencies, travel
agencies, car dealerships, video stores, pharmacies, etc.
They represent a new means of communication in consumer services
such as banking or insurance, as well as a scratch proof and
secure interface for interactive street maps.
Indoors, they could make interactive restaurant tables, programmable
musical instruments, juke boxes, interactive museum displays
and educational playful media for children to express their
